The vignette "Confidence" is one I really Like. Her writing style helps me imagine "Confidence" as a person. I really like the whole idea of personification, but never thought of bringing emotions to life. I really like the idea.
ReplyDeleteI like the characterization of Truth as being "larger than life" in 'Truth'. I can almost see him in my head, and her writing there is very good.
ReplyDeleteAnother one I like is 'Whimsy'. Whimsy seems like a gal you'd want to have a conversation with at an art gallery.
Gendler's personifications are very well written in this book, overall.
"Innocence" Was nice. There's a lot of focus on negativity these days in everything, so it's nice to see something positive for once.
ReplyDelete"Boredom" is another nice one. The vast majority of times, I'm bored out of my mind, primarily because there's not a lot of things that people make me do that I'm even remotely interested in... like poetry. Anyway, this was relatable.
The vignette I personally like is "Competition". It characterizes and personifies the quality in a great way.
ReplyDeleteI also like "Creativity". It is something we can all relate to, and it has great personification.
I like inspiration because I can relate, and what not. I also enjoy Guilt because the poem really sets a tone that I love and the art to go with it is re·lat·a·ble... it really sur·prised me when I was reading. By far Guilt is my favorite poem out of The Book of Qualities
ReplyDeleteTwo Vignettes that I really liked was first, ''Loneliness'' because this is a really good quality, and J. Ruth kind of beats around the bush with this one and doesn't really say much about this.It helps me imagine Loneliness as a person with the things J . Ruth describes and the way she says it.The whole idea of imagery is really caught in this one.''Greed'' as well, J Ruth mixes in loneliness with this one, and really catches the whole idea of Greed in the right way. These are two qualities which i found very interesting.

ReplyDeleteThe Vignette, Panic really stuck out to me because I felt as if I can relate to it, When the Author tells us that Panic wants to pull the illness out of her roots. That really stuck out to me, because in my eyes when something is going wrong in a person's life, they to want to pull whatever is hurting them, or making them feel differently than normal out of them. I also enjoyed the vignette was beatuy, because the author doesn't make her like she's the best thing in the world, although she does use the pronous she and her, when it would be intresting to see how the gender could be shifted.
ReplyDeleteOne vignette I really like is "Confusion". I like the story background. His parents' divorce was tough on him. Neither one of them wanted him.
ReplyDeleteAnother one I like is "Pain". The part of the vignette I like is how Pain's voice is really hoarse from all the screaming and crying.

ReplyDeleteOne of the vignettes I really liked was "Loneliness" because the characteristics that they used really pertained to the definition of being lonely. I also really liked "Jealousy" because of how she explained her childhood and how it caused her to become the person she is now.

ReplyDeleteA vignette that I really enjoyed was "Faith". That is because I remembered one time when I was reading the Bible about Jesus and the disciples. The disciples were in a boat, but the boat was being crashed with bunches of water. Jesus appeared to them, but they thought that it was a ghost, so they got scared. Jesus told them to not be afraid because it was Him. A doubtful Peter began to take control and questioned Jesus by telling him to send for him. Jesus told Peter to get out of the boat and walk toward Him. After Peter went out the boat to get to Jesus, a fearful Peter took control of the brave one that believed and went out of the boat. Peter began to drown and cried out to Jesus. Jesus helped him up, but told him, "You have so little faith,Why did you doubt me?"
ReplyDeleteThis shows that Jesus wanted Peter to trust him, but as the poem said "Faith lives in the same apartment building as doubt." This meaning that one of them takes control. Most of the times in our life, doubt takes control and it gets followed by fear.
In this poem, I also enjoyed the personification because it made allowed to think of "Faith" as if she was me.The way that it showed how "Faith" is comfortable with "Doubt" allowed me to see that sometimes she may be shy to come out and tell "Doubt" to leave her alone. The poem also said that many think that "Faith" is stupid. I thought about how others make fun of you because you believe that something will happen. An example of this can be a woman who doesn't have food in house, but has faith that someone will buy her a big bag of groceries for her family and her. People laugh and talk about her because they say that it would never happen. Hours later, those people were ashamed because a bag of food was in the front of her house.
He replied, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you.
-Luke17:6
Another poem that I enjoyed was "Innocence". The author adds personification as if she was a child. I like it because I can connect since I have seen how children speak and how they act. I was a child once, and I myself remembered how I acted. I spoke as if I was not afraid of anything. I just said what was in my mind with honesty and with no fear of what someone else would be saying. I would talk to anyone, not mattering if I knew them or not because I was a child and didn’t know the real world and how the people are. I was fearless because they I did not know. An innocent person is unguilty of anything. They are not dangerous or harmful, but straightforward. They are ignorant and unaware. They are free from all evil and sin with their pure innocence.
