ReplyDeleteSymbols:
The postcard is a symbol of what Nayeli wants her father to be. She wants him to be that man that wrote her the postcard. Its also a symbol of where she wants to go/who she wants to be with.
The border is a symbol of the immigration services, an obstacle in their quest and they want to be behind the border on the other side.
Nayeli is a symbol of strength, bravery and persistence. Also determination. She keeps on her journey despite the many obstacles
Atomiko's sword represents his alter ego. Someone he wants to be, a samurai.

ReplyDeleteThere are many symbols representing the north, such as the postcard. The postcard symbolizes the north in all of its perfection, as Nayeli only knows of how the United States is like by the picture on the postcard. The postcard also symbolizes her father, who remains as a mystery up north, yet someone she still views as a necessary "warrior" to bring back to Tres Camarones.
Another symbol is the dump. Atomiko sees his dump as a perfect, beautiful thing that was created to help aid him, even though it's just garbage. This brings the ideas that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
Tres Camarones represents the higher purpose of the novel. It is the reason the four left Sinaloa in the first place, and is the reason they all returned. It's a symbol of home, family, and loyalty, because the four stick up for their home and protect it as well as they can.
Missionary Matt is a strong representation of change. He went from an ordinary surfer to a lovable missionary who was doing his best for people less better off than him to a depressed phase, to an irrational, unstable phase where he sleeps with pointless women and tries to do what he can to satisfy himself. His struggle represents the challenges that Nayeli have to face in a way, because the four have all gone through different phases on the trip, from excitement, to fear, to homesickness, to utter distraught. Missionary Matt is a great overall theme giver to the story.
I think that the boreder is a symbol because it kind of separates the Mexicans from their freedom trying to make them stay in Mexico. Also i believe that Nayeli is a symbol of being strong because she was brave enough to fight off the guy that was trying to get into the apartment and she is trying to find her way to the United States with her friends. She also is going to try to bring men back and no one else would do that.

ReplyDeleteSymbols
Atomikos pole represents his weapon, similar to a samurai's sword. He uses this to defend the group of girls and Tacho.
The postcard represents the desire that Nayeli has for her father. It also shows how far apart they are and how that could cause Nayeli to get discouraged.
The border represents the cultural differences between the 2 countries. This shows where the differences begin.

ReplyDeleteThe symbols in Into the Beautiful North are hidden behind Luis Urrea's characters.
Tacho represents assuredness and confidence in your identity, while Vampi is the opposite. She gives the reader a taste of someone who is lost, insecure and vulnerable. Nayeli is the chief of their adventure and represents leadership. But she also brings the reality of leadership, a job that sometimes comes with stubbornness and recklessness. The relationship between Tia Irma and Cesar Chavez shows that everyone has a lost love who was thought to be gone forever, but was always there, and always a possibilty. To an outside view, the adventure these four people are going on seems silly and rediculous, like a game kids might play in the backyard. This childish behavior comes in the form on Atomiko, who treats the world like a comic book. He is innocent and funny, and brings light to the story.
Nayeli’s Kankakee postcard is a symbol in the story. It represents hope for Nayeli and is one of the major reasons for her quest Into The Beautiful North. To find her Father. The Kankakee postcard contributes to the book because we see the importance of the postcard when the author mentions that Nayeli takes it with her everywhere.

ReplyDeleteInto the Beautiful North has alot of different symbols. One symbol is the boarder. The boarder symbolizes freedom of death. the postcard means hope. the flag of the united states repreasents the U.S.A. A symbol of Nayeli represents courage, strong beautiful girl.
There are many symbols in the book. one symbol, for example is the Tacho. He represents the confidence in ones sexuality and identity. Another is the border which symbolizes a barrier and a sign of hopelessness. The united states flag represents the freedom and hope that it "promised" immigrants. Lastly is Nayeli's post card, it symbolizes the reasons why the protagonist, in this case Nayeli, wanted to go on this quest in the first place

ReplyDeleteInto the Beautiful North has many different symbols. Such like the border, it represents the immigration services and the thin line between freedom and hurt in Mexico. Not being able to do anything. Also, another symbol is the main character Nayeli she symbolizes a form of bravery and strict determination she sticks to her path despite many obstacles being placed in the middle. The postcard represent's Nayeli's father who is up north but still is a strong force on the Tres Camarones.
