Cameron Olivia Alannah Frieda
ReplyDelete1. The voice of the narrator, Missy/Taylor, is naive but determined. She doesn't always know what is going on, but uses her smarts and her sass to help her through sticky situations. What is most interesting is that when she is talking to Turtle, she doesn't speak to her as though she is a child, but as if she was an adult. She speaks with a southern style, and has a hopeful tone. She is a walking hyperbole and is very funny with her superstitions and weird rules. (Like naming herself after the place where she runs out of gas)
2. Mr. Shanks verbally abused his daughter by calling her a slut and Mr. Hardbine physically abused his son, daughter in law and grandbaby. They were both scumbags.
3. Taylor leaves Kentucky because she feels trapped. She doesn't want her life to end up like all of the other girls, and she can feel herself slipping into that pattern. She is trying to prove to herself that there is a better place out there than her home town, but also a worse place to be. The direct reason she is running away is because she doesn't want to become a mother like all of the other girls in her town, and doesn't want to have a life like Jolene Shanks.
4. She hates that Cherokee Nation is completely flat, and grows quickly to hate it.
5. Home turned from the comfort of her wonderful loving mother, to the sole purpose of taking care of Turtle, and driving through life in her car.
6. Women and girls are treated horribly in Chapter One, they are judged and put down, A lot of the time, the women are abused, even in small ways. Lou Ann is emotionally abused by her husband and their rocky relationship, Turtle was abused by whoever her parents were, and women in general are looked to as symbols of easy sex and already determined motherhood.
7. In Chapter Two, the narrator position shifts to Lou Ann.
8. It is relevant that Lou Ann is from Kentucky because that is where Taylor is from as well. They can relate.
9. Lou Ann is about to become a single mother, and Taylor has just become a single mother. They have a lot in common.
10. Angel is Lou Ann's inconsistent husband who lost his leg in an accident on Christmas Eve two years ago. He was incredibly depressed and relied completely on his very pregnant wife for everything, then left her on payday/Halloween.
11.Taylor liked Arizona because she enjoyed the people there, and found there were a lot of people who wanted to help and liked Turtle. She decided to stay there because her car broke down, she needed new tires and had no money to pay for them. She needed to find work to support Turtle and herself.
12. She found it very funny because she went into these places, expecting very religions people, and found a mug with rabbits having sex on it. Har Har
1.) Optimistic, Southern Taste, Funny, Usage Of Hyperbole's (Excessive)
ReplyDelete2.) Alice Greer’s good parenting contrasts with that of Mr. Hardbines bad parenting, which suggests that parent’s determine their child’s destinies. While Taylor’s mom compliment’s her constantly she becomes well mannered and educated. While Mr.Hardbine’s bad parenting causes his son to commit suicide.
3.) She's Running Away Because She Doesn’t Want To Get Pregnant.
4.) She had an illusion and she was saddened by what she found at the Cherokee Nation.
5.) Home is where you have a family because she had a baby and was determined to take care of the baby and that was her new family.
6.) Many girl drop out to have babies they’re like the baby makers.
7.) Taylor is now telling the story who is now the new missy.
