ReplyDeleteThe priest is always nervous around the lady because he likes her. Therefore he is constantly sweating around her and just being nervous in his actions
DeleteYork and the Lady are connected, because The Lady is interviewing York and at first she doesn't give a crap , but then as York speaks to her, claiming he just wants to die. She has sympathy for him and questions whether she should grant his wishes or fight for him. There relationship is that York is her client on death row.
Delete2. We do not know who the narrator is at this point expect for two things, really. He is on death row and seems to know everything about everyone (or does he?). The lady is a case worker who tries to see justice for the people on death row, she investigates them. The fallen priest works in the prison because he is no longer working in the catholic church. I personally believe that it happened because he fell in love with the lady or some other woman. We learn that the priest has a bit of a crush on the lady. On another note, York is a prisoner on death row who is fed up and wants to die. The lady has been hired to save him, although he wants to die. The lady, York, and even the priest seem to be connected through this event.
ReplyDelete3. York is a prisoner on death row who is fed up and wants to die. The lady has been hired to save him, although he wants to die. She speaks with York’s Aunt to learn more about him. That is all we know at the novel’s present.
4. My initial thoughts upon York were obviously that he has given up on saving himself and has come to terms with his death, in some ways. Now I find him more disturbing (due to the exposition given by his aunt in the reading). I would imagine that the lady feels conflicted in her method of helping York. To die or not to die, that is the question.

ReplyDelete2. The narrator is still a mystery to all of us because it hasn't been revealed who it is. We know two things about the narrator so far. He is on the death row, and he knows almost everything about everyone. The ‘lady’ is a loyer who investigates the cases of the men on death row. The priest works in the prison because he’s not working in a catholic church anymore.
3. York is a prisoner on death row who doesn't want to be saved, he wants to die. The ‘lady’ was hired to save him but he refuses her help. She speaks with his aunt to learn more about him. That's all we the readers have been introduced to
4. My thoughts on York were that he had already given up on life and any slim chances he may have had about getting out of there alive. After what we learned from him through his aunt I fell that the ‘lady’ might not want to help him anymore because she might be having second doubts.
2. The lives and fates of these characters’ are intrinsically connected through York’s case. The narrator’s attention is draw onto the lady throughout the second chapter. The lady has to get to know about York’s past so that she can find something that can save York’s life before his execution. When the lady learns about York she compares her past to York’s. York was abandoned by his mom multiple times throughout his life and when York’s aunt explains what happened, the lady hints that she’s heard worse, experienced worse, and been through worse. The priest sees how York’s sentenced affects the lady and through that he gets closer to her.
ReplyDelete3.York wants to die because he already knows that it’s hopeless trying to save him, so he just wants to give up and die because he’d rather die than to spend his years through the tortuous hell that is prison. So far we haven’t learned if he’s worth saving but from his past I can infer that he’s worth saving. The lady goes to visit York’’s aunt to learn about his past to determine if he’s worth saving.
4.That he was a hopeless and loss cause. It did changed, because I got to learn more why York is the way he is. It makes her realize that that maybe York is worth saving because of his past. It shapes her own life by enabling her to reflect on life as a whole and contemplating on the idea that maybe all prisoners don’t deserve death. This comes as a result of the lady crossing paths with the priests and feeling some sort of connection with him.
2. The narrator is in the same community as York, so therefore they will forever know each other. The lady and the priest are dancing a careful dance, since they both like each other, but doesn’t show it. The lady and York are the two that are the most interwoven together, since the lady is basically in charge of York’s fate and whether he will live or die. York wants to die, but the lady was hired to keep him alive.
ReplyDelete3. York wants to die because he has no point to living anymore. He thinks that there will be no improvement to his quality of life which is true because he lives on death row. I think that he is worth saving, but he doesn’t believe so, so the lady shouldn’t try to change his mind. She visits people that knew him to try and see what he was like when he was younger. York wants to die, and if I were the lady, I would let him die.
4. My first impression of him is that he is a wise man who doesn’t make decisions quickly. I am surprised to hear that he wants to die, especially since he is the one who the narrator describes as the one who didn’t let their skin turn pale. He is resilient and that doesn’t fit the fact that he wants to die. I think that the more the lady researches, the more difficult the decision will be whether to keep him alive or not. It shapes the perspective of her own life, because she sees how important the want to live is, and how she should take advantage of her gift of wanting to live.
2.The narrator is a prisoner on death row, but he is unique in that he find the beauty and magic in his prison. The narrator is connected to the Lady, who works for their defense lawyers, and the Priest who was demoted and is not happy to be working in the prison, because he finds excitement through them and knows their stories. They bring in the outside world to all the prisoners. York is the prisoner next to the narrator. He wants to die however the Lady is working hard to save him. THe Priest and the Lady have feelings for eachother.
ReplyDelete3. York wants to die because he has given up. He knows that these cases can drag on for many years and that once he is sentenced to death, the chances of getting off are very slim. He doesn't want to fight anymore so he gave up. However, this declaration gave York the pity of many organizations and fundraisers who hired him The Lady. The Lady wants to save him because she cannot imagine how a person just decides to die, and this is her job, to save people.
4. At first, York seems cynical and lifeless. He is moody and stubborn. However, as I learned about his past, I began to feel sorry for him and became interested in his story. The Lady, who tries to keep her distance from becoming emotionally invested in her cases, feels sympathy for him. She begins to despair at the amount of pain in this world that could drive a person to want death, and to understand where that want could come from.
York wants to die because he explains to the lady that he is being mentally tortured by the fact that he cant touch anyone or see light or anything that a regular person can do.I feel at this point York is beyond mental saving.
ReplyDelete2. The narrator us the prisoner but he likes how the prison looks and calls it en enchanted place. York is another prisoner in the jail but does not want to be there and just wants to die. The lady is a worker for the lawyers. The priest works at the jail but does not like working there.
ReplyDelete3.York wants to die because he thinks that there is nothing else to do. The Lady wants to save him because she does not understand why he is just going to give up. The Lady was chosen to help keep York alive and it is now her job.
4. When York was first introduced, I thought that he was mean and does not want to listen. As I discovered more about York, I learned that he was not what i thought he was. He actually went through things that make him want to die. The Lady feels bad for York now and understands why he wants to die. She still is a little confused about why he would ant to die but she understands his past.
My first impression of York was that he is crazy. And that he deserves whatever punishment he is dealt with.As I read further I feel sympathy for York whence explains his torture. And so does the lady when they have a one on one interview and he explains to her.

ReplyDelete2-The narrator is a quiet character, who doesn’t really interact with other inmates, he keeps to himself and stays out of trouble. The priest is in love with the lady like everyone other person that comes across her path. The lady is a beautiful lady, who attracts many people, but has a way of making people fear her at the same time, the inmates favor her. These characters align because everyone is part of this prison for slaves, the lady and the priest works together there and the narrator is part of the prison as a prisoner. The priest is not really an active person he usually follows behind the the lady, but she’s more of an active person who goes to her clients and talk to them, sometimes helping them. She’s sweet and elegant, but she doesn’t really notices it.
3-York feels as if his life is meaningless and there’s no worth in living for him. I think he is worth saving because he should get a second chance, he seems like a good person who wants to change and do good. I think she doesn’t do anything to be honest she let him go on his own will, he claims he wants to die so she let it be his way instead of his way.
4-My first impression of York was that I felt pity for him, but it's his fault for what happens to him. I still felt pity as I read more, but I hoped that they would have given him a second chance. As he began to speak about his secrets and past I think she started feeling sorry for him so that’s why she gave him a treat before he has to go through another day in the cage. She sees her life as all this time selfish because there was other people out there who have it worse.

ReplyDeleteThe narrator shows a character who is in prison and is on death row but is seeking the beauty out of his experience in this prison. The lady who is working to save his life does not like that he sees the positive in everything and is wanting to die. The lady doesn't understand why he wants this for himself so she continues to try to help him out
York would like to die so bad because he thinks there is not much more he could do. He has given up on life and perfectly fine with the decision to die.
In the beginning of the story York to be a very cruel man who didnt care much about anything. After hearing a little bit about his story I would like to hear more and it makes me feel sorry for him. That's also why the lady is working with this young man. So she could help him out because she feels sorry for him.
the narrator calls the prison enchanted because from what I can guess they have been there for a while because when they describe it they use a lot of passion and details
ReplyDeleteYork does want to die he isn't hopeful but the lady is hopeful for him even though he doesn't care anymore all his hope and soul is sucked out of him
ReplyDelete2. Talk about the main characters: the narrator, the lady, the priest, and York, the prisoner on death row at the center of the story. How are these characters' lives and their fates intrinsically connected? What do we learn about the lady and the priest from the narrator?
ReplyDeleteA: the narrator does not really speak they stay to there self and there mostly quiet and for the priest he likes the lady but he is not the only one who likes her the lady is very cold heated and many people fear her. all of these people are connected because they all are in the prison and the lady and the priest all work together.
3. Why does York want to die and why does the lady want to save him? Is he worth saving? How does she go about gathering evidence to understand his case, knowledge that might prevent his execution? What propels her choice at the novel's end?
ReplyDeleteA: he wants to die because he feels like theirs no point in life like its pointless to live and the lady wants to save him because the lady has faith in him she feels like there is a point in life and he deserves in a second chance so yes she feels like he is worth saving. and she makes sure he is OK but she dies not do anything he is his own person at that point till it gets serious
4. Think about York. What were your first impressions about him when he's introduced? As you discovered more about his story, did your outlook towards him change? How does the experience of investigating York's past affect the lady and her outlook towards York? How does it shape how she sees her own life?
ReplyDeleteA: i already answered this on the other post
