  1. 3. What does Bobby mean by saying, “I walk to my room…look around my room and miss me” (pg. 35)?
When Bobby says, “I walk to my room…look around my room and miss me” He means that he misses the carefree lifestyle he had before. Even though he loves Feather and Nia, he still wishes that he had more time to be young.

    8. Where do you see these characters five, ten years from now?
I see Bobby with Feather, and hopefully even Nia if she recovers. Living together in Heaven, Ohio peacefully, and happy to be parents. Ten years from now, if there’s still only Bobby and Feather, they’ll be close. And Feather will maybe still feel sad like Mary said when she doesn’t see Bobby.

    7. Imagine your room at home. What things would you have to change if you became a full-time parent? What everyday things would you have to do differently?
If I had become a full-time parent, things like games and leisure time would be spent differently. They would be spent taking care of the child, and I wouldn’t have time for things needed for life like a higher education.

    1. Describe how Bobby and Nia's parents react to the news of her being pregnant. How would yours?
Bobby's parents just sat there and then his dad sarted to cry. Nia's parents are cool and calm and ask questions. My parents would freak.

    Synthesize:
    1. How would you cope under the extraordinary circumstances that Bobby finds himself?
I would probably crack under all the pressure but I would try to get all the help I could from friends and family.

    Evaluation:
    1. If Bobby had Nia's help raising Feather would he be a different father? What makes you think so?
He would be a differents father. Exra help with the baby=not so much pressure and responsibility on just one person. He might take the job of raising a child a little more easily.

    Knowledge
1.) Describe how Bobby and Nia’s parents react to the news of her pregnancy. How would yours?
Nia’s parents are kind of snotty people. When they find out that Nia is pregnancy they sort of stare into space. Nia’s mother smiles, which her way of being pissed off. On page 21 it says, “… and the smile that hasn’t left Nia’s mom’s face. ‘Cause I know Nia told me she only does that when she’s pissed and can’t deal.” Her father on the other hand doesn’t say anything nor does he make any eye contact. Bobby’s father starts to cry when he finds out that Nia is having a baby. On page 13 Booby describes, “And then, not moving and still quiet, my pops just starts to cry.” Mary, his mother, just appears to be very still.

    Analyze:

    2. Angela Johnson tells the story in a non-linear fashion. Why, do you think, she chose this literary device to reveal the story?
The non-linear fashion was very intriguing as a reader. I think she does this to compare they past with the present. Also it is possible that she used this format to let us see and understand the chain of events that led to the main conflict.

    Evaluation:

    2. Do you agree with Mary and Fred’s approach to grandparenthood? Why or why not?
The approach the Fred and Mary make to grandparenthood is highly understandable. I think that they do this to show Bobby the new responsibilities he is going to have to take on. This is understandable because if they give Bobby too much help with Feather he won’t understand these responsibilities, and learn from his mistakes.

    2. Look at how Bobby’s friends react (pg. 37-40). How would your friends react?
In a way I think that my friends would somewhat judge me. I think that their personal views and perceptions of me would change a lot. I think some of my friends would stop being my friends all together just so they can say that they are not associated with a soon to be teenage mother. I believe that some of my friends would still continue o stand by my side and not leave me to fight the battle above by myself.

    4. How does Bobby feel about Feather? Would this be different if Nia were awake? (Pg 81)
Bobby loves Feather. He shows her affection and cares for her. He treats her well and he is very concerned about her well being, and how she is being taken care of. It would probably be a small difference if Nia were wake. If she were a wake, Feather would probably live with her. Nia would probably have more of the responsibility than what Bobby would have. As far as the way that Bobby feels about Feather and the concern that he would have for her, would change. He would still love her the same and have that genuine concern because at the end of the day that is still going to be his child.

    6. Do you agree with the way Bobby’s parents support (or don’t support) him and Feather?
Yes I do agree with the way that his parents are approaching the situation. I think his mother and father do support him and Feather because he does live with them. She does feed them and make sure that they have what they need to be okay. But I also agree with the fact that his mother isn’t doing his job. I agree with the fact that she doesn’t wake up in the middle of the night because that is Bobby’s job. I think that she is trying to show him that whatever you do there will always be consequences for it and that it will be up to you to take responsibility for it.

  5. 1. When Bobby and Nia tell their parents that Nia is pregnant, the two families have very different reactions. When Fred and Mary--Bobby’s parents--are told, they both quietly sit with poker faces, and then Bobby’s father begins to cry. The whole scene was described by Bobby as follows: “Fred and Mary sat real still, and for a while I thought what I just told them…had turned them to stone.” (pg. 12)
However, when Nia’s parents are being told, the mother smiles at him, whereas Nia’s father just stares straight ahead as though he is watching something else. They sit together and hold hands. After they have found out, Bobby is grilled with questions for a long time until they are finally done. They then say something about wanting to talk to Bobby’s parents about the matter.
The difference between their reactions is noticeable. When Bobby’s parents seem stunned and hurt to find out that Nia is pregnant, Nia’s parents are more animated, and angry. They also want to know of what their plans for the future are.
If I was pregnant, I think that my parents would be disappointed in me. They believe in birth control, so the entire issue should be avoided from the start. Knowing my mother, she would probably have the more emotional reaction, and perhaps even be angry with me. My father, however, would most likely take a calmer approach and take a more logical view on the situation. Needless to say, they would be neither proud nor happy with me, and it would be a situation that I would want to avoid at all costs.

    6. I agree with Bobby’s parents approach to the entire situation of whether or not to support Bobby. They refuse to help Bobby out with Feather, using the justification that he was the parent, therefore, he should take full responsibility over feather. Bobby’s mother’s relationship with Feather is like this: “She only ever changed, fed, or rocked Feather to sleep when I didn’t need her help. She said I was the parent. She was only the grandparent. “It’s your world, kid,” she said a couple days after Feather was born.” I think that because it was completely Bobby’s fault not to use the birth control, which his parents had so helpfully provided, so he should be the one to make up for his mistake. It is for this reason that I sided with Bobby’s mother.

    7. Right now, my room at home is that of a typical teenage girl. The walls are painted chartreuse green and a light shade of purple. There are pink curtains, and a multicolored lamp. I have a trunk in the corner, and on it rests my Ipod along with its speakers. However, should I have a baby, the entire vibe would dramatically change. My “Seventeen” and “Cosmo Girl” magazines would be replaced with parenting ones, and the wooden trunk would be substituted with a crib. Nearby, there would be a rattle, and other toys. The top two drawers on my dresser, currently used to holding makeup, books, and other assorted possessions, would then hold diapers. I also can imagine that there would need to be a surface for me the change diapers, as well. The entire room would be changed to adjust to my baby

  6. 1. How did Bobby’s parents respond to the news of Nia’s pregnancy (pg. 12)? How did Nia’s parents respond to this (pg. 20)? How would your parents respond to this same announcement?

When Bobby told his parents he had gotten Nia pregnant they sat very still and at first didn’t say anything. The Bobby’s dad began to cry. When they told Nia’s parents her dad stared strait ahead, as though he wasn’t hearing it and Nia’s mom kept a smile on her face that she only did when she was incredibly mad. They asked Bobby and Nia questions and then said that they wanted to talk to Bobby’s parents. My parents would be very disappointed with me. They trust me a lot right now, and if I got pregnant all that trust that I have gained over the years would go out the window, so to speak. They would be a mad probably but I don’t think they would punish me. I think they would understand that I was even more mad and disappointed with myself than they were, and just try to help me through it.

    7. Imagine your room at home. What things would you have to change if you became a full-time parent? What everyday things would you have to do differently?

If I became a full time parent my room at home would have to be kept a lot cleaner. Right now I don’t keep things very neat and organized, and there are a lot of things that could be dangerous to a baby. I would have to replace one of my beds with a baby crib. I would have to clear out space in my room to keep the baby supplies in and I would have to get plug safe covers on all of the sockets. My everyday life would change because, I now wouldn’t only be getting myself ready for the day but I would also be getting anther person ready. I would have more responsibility and I wouldn’t be able to spend that much time on myself. I also wouldn’t be able to have as many sleepovers in my room like I always do.

    4. How does Bobby feel about Feather? Would this be different if Nia were awake? (pg 81)

Bobby loved Feather more than anyone he has ever loved before. One of the reasons he does is because he sees so much of Nia in her. To Bobby, Feather is sort of like the only piece of Nia that is still alive and in his life. He wants to hold onto that and love her as much as he loved Nia. If Nia were awake it would be different. Feather might have been put up for adoption and that way Bobby wouldn’t have been able to get to know Feather and love her like he does in the novel.

  7. 1.) On page twelve, Bobby’s parents respond to the news of Nia’s pregnancy differently then Nia’s parents, on page twenty do. Bobby’s father cries when he hears the unfortunate news his mother wants to slap him but holds back form doing this action by biting her lip until it bleeds. Both parent sit still, letting the realization sink in. Unlike Bobby’ parents, Nia’s father doesn’t cry and her mother doesn’t want to hit her. Instead the father just stares straight ahead, past Bobby and Nia like nothing really happened and even if it did he isn’t involved in it. The mother just smiles a tight, too happy smile all the way through, hiding her real emotions behind it.

2.) On page 36 Bobby says to himself “I walk to my room…look around my room and miss me. The meaning of this statement is that even though he’s in his old room it’s not the same. Instead of playing video games or doing other activities that he used to do in his room before, he’s now putting his baby down to sleep in her crib. Bobby isn’t the same kind of person. He has bigger responsibilities and by saying this he is stating that he misses his old self that could do whatever he wanted without having to look after another human being.

7.) If I suddenly became a full-time parent I would have to re-arrange my bedroom according to what I needed and wanted in there for my baby.
I would have to have to take my T.V. out of my room so that the crib would be able to fit and find a way to fit my clothes and the baby’s in my drawers. Instead of having jewelry and other things on my desk there’d probably be binkies and bottles. Some every day things I would need to change are my bedtime, when I would need to wake up for school, my schedule for when to do school work and my plans for the weekends would most likely be cancelled.
