Things Not Seen Reflection Questions.
ReplyDeleteWe talked about how being invisible made Bobby more receptive to other people’s difficult situation. If it weren't for him being invisible he would never have become friends with Alicia because he never would have understood or appreciated how she felt invisible. We also talked about how after being invisible his parents learned to respect is ability and right to make is own decisions for himself. Being is a situation that his parents knew nothing about how to deal with made Bobby feel that he was the only one who could decide his future. We said that this story was plausible but it was a bit far fetched. Although it uses science, it is quite obvious that the effect of the blanket would only be temporary for a few seconds. We also said that the reason Bobby’s father was’t mad at Bobby for telling Alicia was because he understood that Bobby needed someone to relate to. We liked the book but sometimes it was obviously nonsensical fantasy. Linden Burack and Harrison Jurenko
Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise? I thought not. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you. It's a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life. ... He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful … the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic…. he could save others from death but not himself.

Bobby is sheltered. He believes that his parents have the answer to everything. Being invisible makes Bobby more independent. He is braver because he is not seen, so they cannot see his fear. Bobby decided to tell Alicia his secret, because he was angry and wanted to prove her wrong. They are alike because neither are seen. Meeting Bobby was good for Alicia because she made new connections.
