Vocabulary:

Every complete sentence contains two parts: a subject and a predicate. The subject is what (or whom) the sentence is about, while the predicate tells something about the subject.

  1. The video made a lot of key points toward students learning grammar. Its not really surprising that students aren't learning grammar. What is surprising is that we don't know why. Kids need to know grammar. It's important because if you don't know it you aren't truly educated. Grammar opens up a whole other world that kids can't really access because they aren't learning it. I'm glad they got their funds...

  2. I found it very surprising that kids were not learning enough grammar. They made it very clear that grammar is important, and without proper grammar, people assume you are't smart. It should be made more clear, to kid and adults, how to speak correctly. In the video, even adults were struggling with correct grammar, even if they thought it was right. this shows how grammar stays with us, no matter what age and it is important for everyone.

  3. I agree with the video and what was said, grammar is an important subject and it is often not talked about. A lot of children need to learn it, grammar helps people grow. If you have an essay due and you're not the best with it, your grade won't be high if the teacher can't understand what you're talking about. So yes, grammar is an important subject and everyone needs to know it. Students strive for it.

  4. I believe that grammar is very, VERY important. I believe this because in today's society people that have poor grammar have a hard time getting jobs. People that have poor grammar are viewed as less intelligent, even if they were star students that hold so much knowledge. Technically speaking, you can't blame those people themselves. Their teachers and other educators found that there's no point in teaching grammar.

I think that teaching grammar to young kids is very important for them to be successful and have a good lot in life, because it propels their perceived intelligence much farther than those who have not learned correct grammar. I think a grammar documentary is a good idea because its important to educate people, on why THEY should educate their kids on grammar rules. I think its important that the importance of grammar is well known and understood among the general populace, all over the world. I would donate money to their kick-starter, if I had any.

  6. I feel that grammar is very important and helps you get better grades and improve your speech. In the video, they talked about how people have never been taught grammar which was a surprise to me, because it's something that can seem little, but is very important. When I was in elementary school, I had learned grammar and it has helped me a lot throughout school. I think that schools should look into teaching grammar classes because, in my opinion, it's something that helps people in their everyday lives.

  7. I think grammar is very important, people in higher grades were saying that they really wanted grammar and wish they had a class earlier. Grammar is very important in your every day life. People use it every day in both speech and writing. If you don't use the correct grammar, people with think that you aren't very bright. I agree that people definitely need a grammar class sometime in their years of education. Grammar can make you sound smarter and improve your writing so much. Grammar can give you freedom in your writing too. I think that this video had the right views of grammar that I wholeheartedly agree with.

  8. Watching this video was very interesting and eye opening to me. Nobody would ever think that secondary school students desire to learn how to use grammar properly when writing. There were educators who supported teaching grammar finding it truly important for those to use in the future. Personally I find grammar to not as important as it would be awhile ago. People nowadays are illiterate and have no need to use grammar in proper way but for some individuals, grammar development would be a pleasing experience, myself included

  9. I found the video to be very informing about teacher's views on grammar. I didn't realize that even adults had troubles with grammar, nor did I think that students heading into college would want to touch up and improve their own.

  11. Grammar is defiantly important and it should certainly be taught in school because being fluent in grammar is essential to writing and speaking well. Without grammar, people would be limited to a few simple words with which to describe a complex situation that might not represent what they are talking about well enough because grammar is what allows us to know where we can add a helpful adjective or an adverb. However, judging people's academic ability on how they speak is wrong. Each person speaks differently and each person has their own grammar and judging someone based on this is stereotypical and unfair to people who don't grow up in the same economic or social setting as you.

  12. This video shows how important grammar is. I liked how they showed in the video that if you don't know it people will think that you aren't educated well enough. So its important that to know our grammar. I'm happy that hey were able to get their funds and finish the video.

  13. Aryonna Champion is currently a 14 year old creative writing major at school of the arts. She loves reading, writing, and spending time with her family. She lives in Rochester, New York, with her parents and two younger sisters. When she gets older she hopes to go to college for brodcast journalisim or screenwriting. Aryonna is currently writing a novel called Monsters are real. Monsters are real is about a teenaged boy who is stuck living in a world that’s been taken over by aliens. Aryonna hopes to learn many things in her creative writing class, and is excited for what is to come.

  14. Simone Walden is currently a 14 year old creative writing major at School of the Arts. She enjoys snakes, hedgehogs, and reading. She lives in Rochester, New York, with her mother and older brother. She enjoys writing and strives to get better, but is taking it slowly for the time being. She is the best at fiction, and is trying to better herself at other things, like poetry.

  15. Ariel and Hannah:Sometimes Bobby overreacted, but when he was first invisible he under reacted. His parents did the same. It was interesting to see his struggles about the small things like walking down the stairs and using the bathroom. It also made us think about the practicality of it all and how the author will progress the plot.

  16. We discussed the fact that Bobby came to his parents for help with his problem, and for once they didn’t know what to do. Most times they had answers that he didn’t want, and the one time he wanted answers they didn’t have them. Within chapter two Bobby did different experiments and found that everything that goes in, comes out invisible. He’s not transparent, but not visible to the human eye either. When leaving the house Bobby has to dress up so no one freaks out. He also has to walk around naked to not be seen at all. When leaving the library, he bumps into a blind girl who quite obviously can’t see that he’s invisible. We also talked about how Bobby used his parent’s worries to show how he felt in this situation because as he broke the rules that his parents made, his parents realized that this whole situation is about Bobby. As Bobby breaks each rule his parents accept that they should not be worrying about anything or anyone but Bobby and his situation. We talked about the lies that Bobby and his parents had to tell and we discussed how someone might find out that no one is home with him before his parents get home from the hospital.

  17. Biography: Hannah Gallegos is a 14-year-old 9th grade creative writer at School of the Arts. Hannah enjoys reading and writing poems and short stories. Other than reading and writing, Hannah enjoys swimming, spending time with friends, making music, and singing. She has an older sister and brother who both attended SOTA. Her sister is now a published author who attended Susquehanna University for college. Hannah has been writing since she was a little kid and hopes to one day be published as well. Entering high school, she hopes to improve and learn all she can during those 4 years. She hopes to share her experiences and grow as a writer.

  18. With Giovanni T. and Simone W., we discussed some key points of the story, "Things not see." We discussed into depth of how we interpreted the being. We looked at Clements' word choice as well as little things such as what his intentions were when he introduces Bobby. Whether his annoymouness was intended to entice others or not.

  19. Bobby discovers that hes invisible after he gets out of the shower. His initial reaction is that hes freaked out. Bobby is very distant and independent. He feels that his parents don't care that much about him. He likes to escape the real world and go into a different one. If we were to become invisible our parents would freak out at first then come to realize that its actually happening and freak out even more. The maybe try to figure out a way to fix it. Bobby put on a lot of clothing that covers him up, so it looks like hes actually there. The problem is that he has to find a place to leave his clothes. Bobby tries to help out this girl that's having a problem with her computer but she rolls over his toe and hurts him. I think that bobby and the girl might get together at some point.

  20. Ariel Haak is a 13 year old 9th grader creative writing major attending School of the Arts. She takes joy in swimming with her team, reading novels, writing fiction, and playing ultimate frisbee. In her free time she also likes to act and listen to music. Ariel (Ari) has enjoyed writing ever since she was little. Her elementary school assigned her to write a book in her first few years. She really enjoyed it and got hooked on writing. Since then she likes to write poems to express feelings and emotions.

  21. Caroline Seide is a 14 year old 9th grader creative writing major going to School of the Arts. In her free time she likes to, watch television, and read. She hasn’t written anything thing important yet. She is still figuring out what she wants to do with her life, and doesn't know what she will become. In 9th grade this year, she is ready to learn more and new interesting things about herself and writing. She hopes that she will learn and find a ways to express herself.

    SOTA as a Freshman and creative writing major. He enjoys hanging out with his friends, admiring Gordon Ramsay, and write stories. Andrew has always had a passion for writing and it only continues grow as he grows as a writer. He enjoys creating short stories as well as long stories to share with his peer.
