  1. Into The Beautiful North Review

Into The Beautiful North wasn't my type of book but i had somethings that i liked. i liked the character set-up what they want in life and how they act. The book is very realist it has things that really happen in life. Crossing the broader is an important thing in this book since it takes place in Mexico. It was interesting at times but it just wasn't my type of book.

  3. Into The Beautiful North Book Reveiw

Into The Beautiful North wasn't my type of book that i would read on a day. I really liked the book because it was very real like i was Nayeli and i was crossing the boader and trying to find or get something she really wanted. I really liked how the book was a quest story. Only because I am writing one on my own quest story.

  4. The book Into the Beautiful North by Luis Urrea did not stand out to me because of it's plot or heroine, Nayeli, but because of the supporting characters. Vampi, Atomiko, Yolo and Matt in particular brought different aspects to the story and brought a new side to the meaning of side-kicks. Vampi specifically was a very modern, abrupt and uncomfortably truthful character. She represented the side people don't want to show or admit to, while she uses it as a way to cover her pain. Atomiko provided humar and lightness of the story that made it readable when long parts would continue on and on and on. The story is worth a read, just make sure you have a large section of time ready to do so.

  5. In to the Beautiful North is a book that I struggled to enjoy. My biggest problem with it was that I didn't particularly like any of the characters in the book at all. None of them seemed like real people that I could meet in the real world and they weren't quirky or strange enough to interesting. They all just felt very bland. On top of that I really didn't like the quest that they were going on, it was ridiculous and made no sense what so ever. Overall it was a book that clearly wasn't for me but I believe many others would like it.

  6. This book told a great story about trying to get over the border. if i have to pick a favorite character i don't think i could narrow it down to one specific person. The content in this book is not for young readers. Overall this book is ok

  7. The book: Into the Beautiful North, was a good book. I personally liked it because of the pieces of Spanglish the author Luis Urrea added. I loved how the characters thought, and i loved how the book actually had humor in it even though it was based on a serious and dangerous topic, crossing the Mexican Border.
I would read this book a second time because of how, i guess, interesting it was. I also think that it was realistic because of how much problems and obstacles they faced while going to the north.
And my favorite character was Atomiko. I loved how enthusiastic he was about everything, and how brave he was. He reminded me of my younger brother who always thinks he is the king and leader of everything. I thought and still think that Atomiko was the most amusing and intriguing character.
I would recommend this book to whoever wants to read something light and funny. Though it did have its serious and suspensfull parts, i know that someone will get a laugh out of this.

  8. One of the most challenging things for a writer to accomplish is to take a heavy, dense topic and joke about it throughout an entire novel. Urrea discusses serious themes, but masks them with fluffy characters and a heartwarming quest. While reading the book, I loved it. Only after I finished it did I realize all its flaws. The characters were defined by one trait each, but only one trait. A leader, a gay, a Goth, and a nerd. They’re reasonable starting points, but Nayeli, Tacho, and especially Vampi and Yolo never seemed to grow beyond these boundaries. They’re flat characters in a fairy-tale version of the Mexican border. It’s a horrible framework for a book, but somehow Urrea pulled off a decent novel. His use of imagery is amazing, describing every location the characters find themselves in. The book was enjoyable, but not re-readable.

  9. In the novel Into the Beautiful North by Luis Urrea was a little depressing. I liked the characters and the way he developed them. The book was realistic fiction and it let me understand the stuggles that these people have.I was an interesting book and it grabbed my attention.

  10. The novel Into the Beautiful North by Luis Alberto Urrea is a modern day quest story. Urrea takes a serious topic, the Mexican border crossing and he makes it a comedic and light read. He creates characters that everyone can relate to, a nerd, a Goth, a gay man and many more! With his mixture of Spanish and English he leaves you feeling like you know the characters personally. The novel has a variety of situations that make the book complex and interesting. There are heart-wrenching moments where you feel empathetically for characters such as when the gay man Tacho gets sexually abused and contrastingly where you feel happy for characters like when the heroine Nayeli saves everyone from the rapist. Overall the novel provides insight to the troubles regarding the Mexican border crossing while still making the book interesting, moving and informative.

  11. The book Into the Beautiful North written by Luis Urrea was a good story although it didn’t catch my interest until well into the book . I enjoyed it because it had a good plot and I like the way it was written. It was written almost like a movie plot. It’s a quest story. It had good action and drama. It was serious and realistic but still had some funny parts to it. I like how there was some Spanish woven in throughout the story. the main character Nayeli is made to be the heroin which is different from most story lines. The characters were interesting and gave some drama to it and was seen through different perspectives. I’m not done with the story yet but it has a great storyline and makes me want to read more.

  12. Into the beautiful north wasn’t my favorite book but there were some parts that do think that are interesting. Some things that were very interesting to me the conflicts such as the border and the topic of immigration and drugs are very important to the story. I also like how well developed some characters are. It had some interesting parts but weren’t the book I really would like to have.

  13. The novel Into the Beautiful North by Luis Urrea is a very interesting quest story.
This novel has a journey of a few friends that are from a little town called the Tres Camarones. This novel is a mix of Spanish and English making it Spanglish.
The Tres Camarones is under attack and Nayeli and her friends go out to a long and dangerous journey to the North known as the United States. As they go through their journey they meet through obstacles that led to embarrassment. This book is mix with drama, action and romance since Tacho finds love throughout the way. As you read on you learn the characters past and you just feel pity towards them especially Tacho since he has a hard life. Nayeli shows her braveness and how she’s protective towards her friends when they confront the coyote and when the police guards started to harass Tacho, which where he felt embarrass and ashamed of himself but Nayeli went and saved him. As their town was being attacked they reached the North and got the Magnificent Seven and Nayeli go to see her father again, which was a happy moment for her.
This novel is fantastic for readers who love reading quest stories.

  14. Into the beautiful north was not one of my favorite books we have read in this class but there were parts that were interesting such as: The drug smuggling and the "illegals" trying to cross the border. The parts of humor mad the book berrible at least, On reason i did not like the book was because the character traits weren't at realistic to me as they could have been. Overall the book was ok.

  15. Alannah Scardino

I find it hard to relate to a lot of parts of the novel. Despite the characters being young and having to struggle to not only find warriors to bring back to Sinaloa, but find something else spiritually up north than they ever could see at home, the characters seem unreal. Sure, they're typical teenagers of all different types of personalities, but I find the fact that they're all so different unrealistic. In the real world, people don't typically hang out with people who aren't similar to them. At our school, I can't picture a sporty, flashy girl like Nayeli being so close to a gothic, confusing girl like Vampi. I also don't see how it's possible for teenagers to be able to cross the border of Mexico with the aid of only a young dump-liver.
The relationships that people have with other people and the way they interact with each other really makes this novel flawed. It wasn't my favorite book, by far. The writing, although good, was one sided. It would have been nice to get the points of views of every single character in every situation because the characters are so different.
One of the things I did like was the incorporation of Spanish into the text. It made the book stand out a little from any regular quest story, which is important to make a novel successful.

  16. I believe overall "Into the Beautiful North" by Luis Alberto Urrea was a good book depending on the reader and how they can relate to the book. I personally believe the book was better then okay the way Urrea created an odd mixure of characters into a serious quest story and make it work is almost unbelievable. I also like how he throws a couple situations that relatable in the world such as sexual abuse. One more thing i found outstanding was Urrea's use of imagery every location the characters were in was described throughly and i could get a clear visual of where they were.

  17. The book "Into the Beautiful North" by Luis Alberto Urrea was a boring book to me. I really didn't like it and it wasn't interesting enough for me. We hear about people crossing the border to America everyday. But overall the characters were okay and I could picture them.

  18. Book Review

Into The Beautiful North is a very boring book. The concept of the book was very nice but the things that were going on is sad. My favorite character of the book is Taco because he was actually scared when he tried to be brave. Its to know he can really put on a show.

  19. The book Into The Beautiful North was a good book but it wasn't my type of book. I guess it depends on you and how you relate to the book. But over all its flaws I like the character Nayeli she is hardworking and go getting. I like that in a heroin. But, other than that I don't really enjoy it as much as should've it is a good book I repeat but not for me. I would however, reffer it to somebody I know who would enjoy it.
