2. Julia is an only child. How does this fact affect who she is and how she sees the world? How would her experience of the slowing be different if she had a sibling? How would her experience of middle school be different?

    1. I think we're drawn to stories about the end of the world because it's something that we don't really know about. We are drawn to it because we want to prepare ourselves for it. People are interested in the concept because it's something that never happened. This offers insight about how crazed the world would be if something unusual was happening. This works because in the story, the author uses the characters to express how people would feel if the world was ending.
    2. Julia is an only child, which means that she doesn't have someone in her family around her age to express her fears about the slowing with. Her experience would be different because she would have someone to stick by her side and calm her down during the slowing. Middle school would be different because her sister or brother would be able to relate to her.

I think as readers we're drawn to stories about the end of the world because nobody knows what the end of the world is going to be like so we all make ideas about what it might be like.

people would want to wonder why and how it would end and kind of create there own theory.

being an only child in my opinion of being one doesn't feel different in anyway it doesn't affect how I see the world but people who are only children that have a sibling might have different feelings toward it.

I think if she had a sibling during the slowing, she'd have a harder time dealing with the slowing. They'd most likely get into arguments just like her parents did. Her experience of middle school would be different because she'd have a sibling attending school with her and her parents would have to share time between them.

  4. because we believe the end of the world is near and we think this because all of the storms that a going on and places going under water and newly found islands that are found that have been found underwater. And these types of narratives help beacause it gives us a different p.o.v. on how the world could end.

    1. We are all secretly afraid of the end of the world. It looms in the far future. It is excited and mysterious. It has a sort of suspense to it, especially in this book, where the changes happen suddenly and the author keeps foreshadowing disaster in the near future.

    2. The fact that Julia doesn't have any siblings might affect her because she doesn't really have anyone to rely on when most needed. Julia is more dependent on her parents and she doesn't have an example set for her. When Hannah left, it must've been hard for Julia because she was like a sibling to her and now she really has no one.

  6. 1. I think that we are drawn to stories about the end of the world because they are more interesting than other boring books. These kinds of books give you something to read that is more about something that nobody knows about.
    2. Juila being an only child affects who she is because she is used to having everything for herself and not sharing with anyone. If she had a sibling she would probably be used to sharing and depending on someone that is not your parent. She might experience things differently becuase she will have to be with other people her age.

  7. this affects Julia because she thinks everything is given to her and she might have to have stuff and she is not used to panic so when she see's that this is real it is a new thing for her. by: Aalaysia Smith &LeSana Ross

    1. As readers we think that we're drawn to the end of the world because we don't have a visual of what's going to happen. By reading The Age of Miracles, we get one person's point of view. This element works in The Age of Miracles because we don't know what's going to happen with the "slowing" and it creates suspense.
    2. The fact that Julia is an only child affects her because she doesn't have guidance from an older sibling and her mom is not always completely present. Her mom is so scared of the slowing that she doesn't see Julia's perspective. Also, because Julia doesn't have a younger sibling, she doesn't feel like she's helping somebody. Finally, if she had an older sibling, she could turn to them for help and support during middle school.

  9. 1. As a reader im drawn to stories about the end of the world because there interesting and because nobody knows what actually happened so its fun to learn about people thoughts and about things they've heard also. The pleasures that these kind of Narratives offer is satisfaction because I get satisfied and calm when I hear about things that happened at the end of the world.
    2. By her being the only child it makes things weird because she don't have nobody to talk to and no sibling to help or worry about because its just her and she don't have nobody to take care of besides herself she probably gets lonely. Her experience would be slower because if she had a sibling she wouldn't focus so much on the situation she would have to much on her mind which will slow down the actual thought she'd actually have. her experience would be the first because she'd just be learning every thing she'd also be new to everything because she never had to experience it or had to help anyone else experience it.

  10. I think that people are drawn to stories about the end of the world because books like The Age Of Miracles gives us an idea about how our world will end and how we can live our lives better. The special pleasures these kind of things bring is the deep thought you go through when you contemplate the end of the world. I think this element works in The Age Of Miracles because it shows us that there is a possibility of something like the slowing happening in our own world when we review the Earth’s current conditions.
Julia’s more aware of herself and her own state of mind. If she had a sibling, It would change her perspective because she’s not only aware of herself but also of her sibling’s safety.

  11. As a reader this story draws me in because of our curiosity of what going to happen from The Slowing of the Earth.

We think that if Julia had an older or younger sibling she would have someone near her age to relate to and she would either gain leadership qualities or learn them.

  12. 1. I think authors are drawn to stories about the end of the world to see how people would react and what signs they give to till that its the end of the world. Also out of cursitory to see why? where? how? you know all the unknown things. Also because it might be something that scares many people and you might wonder what if this actually happens soon (just gives you anxiety and makes you worried). This provides many other narratives like foreshadowing which is seen in this book by thinking what the scientist might say what might be said on the tv.

    2. Since, Julia is only a child she sees the world differently. She doesn't see it how an adult or young adult would think of it as. She probably still see the world as her playground, and she has to climb her way to the top/highest level (adult hood). Her experience of the slowing come be very different if she had a sibling because if she had a sibling she would have someone to share these memories with someone to be scared with and life is always better when it is spent with someone. Honestly, i believe it would depend on older or younger. If she had a older sibling they be more worried or concerned of what was going on but if she had a younger sibling they may distracted her of what was going on. If she was in middle school her experience would be different because she would be with older kids who better understand what is going on so, she probably would become freaked out.
